Heartfelt Christmas greetings from me to you.

Merry Christmas.

Whatever you’re doing today, wherever you are, whoever you may be with (and for some, that may well be yourself) it’s my pleasure to wish you the warmest of days.

Christmas can be a good time of course, but it’s fair to say that it may also bring its challenges.

So while I wholeheartedly encourage you to think of others today, I’d also suggest you don’t lose sight of the benefits of being kind to yourself.

See if you can find a tiny corner of the day to give yourself the gift of self-care.

It could be getting out for a brief but brisk walk. It might be five minutes in a favourite armchair. Maybe even a short but sweet phone conversation with someone who means a lot.

Take care of yourself please. You deserve it, and the world needs you in good shape.

You’re in my thoughts.

  1. Dear jon. Dear all readers and commentators.
from germany, far too warm for white christmas, however happy as nothing bad happened around here yet. Today i do the big meal for 12 and more than ten years routine is very helpful.
i wish you all a merry christmas. And don’t take it too serious with all those expectations.

  4. Merry Christmas to you all, thanks for a beautiful post today. Thanks for keeping me on the straight and narrow with your writings in 2015 and for all the years before with Moodscope. May 2016 be kind to you. PS: Jon, I would nominate you for the Nobel Prize if I could! 🙂

  5. Happy Christmas Jon. Thank you so much for your emails, which on a bad day make me so feel better.

And to all those who are also finding this time of year difficult, I promise you that you’re never truly alone, and that there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.

To quote the late Oliver Sacks:
” I cannot pretend I am without fear. But my predominant feeling is one of gratitude. I have loved and been loved; I have been given much and I have given something in return; I have read and traveled and thought and written. I have had an intercourse with the world, the special intercourse of writers and readers.

Above all, I have been a sentient being, a thinking animal, on this beautiful planet, and that in itself has been an enormous privilege and adventure.”
